Brother priests and cooperators

Brother priests and cooperators

The Order of Friars Preachers or Dominicans, by definition, is an order of clerics.
The friars of our Province are at work in Canada, Japan, Rwanda and Burundi.

The Dominican Order has always welcomed friars who did not aspire to priestly ordination.
They were called lay brothers.
After the Second Vatican Council, the Dominican lay brothers were given the name of cooperators in the Constitutions.
Their vocation is rather that of service in Dominican communities, or of apostolic commitment in the service of society and the Church, putting their talents to good use in the service of a single mission: the proclamation of the Good News of Jesus Christ in all its forms.

In 2022, there are 5,503 Dominicans in the world, including 4,101 priests.
