Dominican apostolic sisters are nuns of apostolic life, which means that while they lead a community life in their convents or houses, they are involved in certain activities or work outside their place of life.
Dominican apostolic sisters are currently grouped into over a hundred congregations around the world, some of which have a specific apostolate.
These congregations are generally members of the Dominican family, which informally groups together all those committed to a life project in the spirit of Saint Dominic.
In Canada, three congregations in particular stand out: the Dominicaines Missionaires Adoratrices (Beauport, Qc), the Dominican Sisters of the Trinity (Vancouver) and the Sisters of St. Cecilia, also in Vancouver.
Today, the Dominican Family comprises some 21,324 Dominican Sisters of Apostolic Life in around 110 countries.
